So you want to increase your website traffic?
I’m sure you tried optimising your page titles, targeting keywords and doing other important on-page SEO activities.
But what about off-page SEO?
I’m sure you also tried building some links. How did that go?
If you miserably failed at increasing your website traffic, you need to pause for a while and read this article.
Because in this article, I’m going to show you four off-page SEO activities that will help you improve your website traffic.
Ready? Let’s begin.
Why is Off-Page SEO Important?
Before I begin sharing some really amazing off-page SEO techniques, you need to know why off-page SEO is essential for your website.
I hope you already know that SEO is divided into two different categories:
- On-Page SEO
- Off-Page SEO
On-page SEO includes all the activities performed on your website that help in improving the website rankings. These include targeting the right keywords, using keywords in headings and title, writing long-form content, and more.
You might have heard about these activities a lot. There are many guides, articles and infographics about on-page SEO.
But what about off-page SEO? When I ask about off-page SEO to new bloggers and marketers, the only thing they mention is link building.
Yes, link building is an off-page SEO factor, but it is not the ONLY factor that helps in improving your blog traffic.
There are many other factors that correlate to high rankings on Google. Some of them are, engaging social shares, brand reach on different platforms, and more.
These activities are not talked a lot, and it’s important to know about them. SEO stands on the two pillars of on-page and off-page SEO.
If you only focus on one pillar, you won’t be able to secure top rankings on Google.
This is why off-page SEO is as important as on-page. And that’s what you are going to learn now.
Off-Page SEO Activities To Increase Website Traffic
Here are some useful off-page SEO activities that will help you improve your website’s ranking on Google and get traffic.
1 – Guest Blogging
Guest blogging is the most underrated off-page SEO activity. Here are two reasons why:
- It helps you build links easily
- It allows you expand your audience
Guest blogging is growing faster than ever and it’s expected to grow in the coming years.
You should provide value to the audience to the audience where you are writing the guest post. This way you’ll be able to improve your brand presence and grow your presence beyond horizons.
Here are some steps that will help you perform your guest blogging campaigns efficiently:
- Find websites in your niche that accepts guest posts
- Analyze the websites and see which fits your ideal audience
- Check the website and to understand what kind of content their audience likes
- Write an insanely valuable article and pitch it to the author/editor
- Pitch the article and promote after your post is published
1. Find websites in your niche that accepts guest posts
First, you need to find websites that accept guest posts. You can do this in several ways.
The quickest and easiest way to do this is by a Google search. Search for terms like:
“Your keyword” + “Write for us”
“Your keyword” + “Submit an article”
“Your keyword” + “Guest post by”
“Your keyword” + “Guest contribution by”
“Your keyword” + “Contribute”
These are just some searches you can use for finding websites that accept guest contributions.
Once you find websites that accept guest content, make a list of them and get the contact information of the author.
2. Analyze the websites and see which fits your ideal audience
The next step is to filter out websites and choose only the ones that fit your ideal audience.
It is important that you first contribute content to websites whose audience is your ideal target audience.
You can figure this out by going through the content of the website.
3. Check the website and to understand what kind of content their audience likes
This is a follow up to the above step. While you’re analyzing the content of the website, you’ll get an idea of the content their audience likes.
You can also find this using Buzzsumo. Just enter the website URL, and it’ll show you the posts that generated good shares.
These are the types of content you should be creating.
4. Write an insanely valuable article and pitch it to the author/editor
Once you have an idea for the content, start writing.
To do this, your content needs to be long, informative and should be visually appealing.
5. Pitch the article and promote after your post is published
The last step is to pitch your article. You should ensure that your guest post pitch is good and gets accepted.
Here is an example of a guest post pitch I used multiple times to contribute guest posts to websites:
After your pitch is approved and your article is published, start promoting it. Share the post on your social channels, schedule it using Buffer, and even email your list (if you have one).
2. Be Active On Facebook Groups
Being a part of your niche’s community is very important. Though it may not seem like a direct off-page SEO factor, it does correlate to high rankings. Apart from all this, it also helps you build your brand and connect with your audience.
There are Facebook groups about almost everything, and you can find tons of groups in your industry too.
You can find curated lists of groups in your industry by searching on Google, or you can simply enter your keyword on Facebook and select groups.
Either way, you’ll be able to find communities in your industry.
Join these communities and understand the group. Here’s what I mean by this:
- Scroll through the group posts and understand who comments frequently and is a part of most of the conversations.
- Understand the type of content people share with the group. Are they questions, advice, videos or self-promotion links.
- See whether the admin is active in the group.
- Read the group description, rules and pinned post (if any).
This will help you understand the group and avoid making mistakes that could get you removed from the group.
Then you can begin being a part of the conversation. Try to be active and help everyone before anyone else could.
If you do this, your name will pop up in the group, and this will make the members check out your profile and see what you do.
This is an excellent way of building some trust and authority in your industry.
On top of this, many Facebook groups dedicate a day to link sharing where you can share your content.
This presents a good opportunity to share your content with the community. Also, if you make a good relationship with the admin of the group, they might even allow you to share a link.
The chances of this are very low, but if this happens, you’ve just hit gold!
Therefore, leveraging Facebook communities is a great way to increase your website.
3. Start Answering Questions On Quora
I talk about this a lot and here’s why:
Quora is the biggest Q&A website. This means that your potential audience is hanging out there and looking for solutions to their problems.
You can easily leverage this by answering questions and turning those people into your loyal fans.
Here are some tips that will help you leverage Quora:
- Provide detailed answers that help solve the problem.
- Don’t fill your answer with links. Include a link at the end of the answer.
- Make sure your answers are long and include images.
- Mention experts in your answer. This will make them check out your answer and maybe upvote it.
- Answer at least five answers on Quora to grow your profile and get more views.
These tips will help you provide valuable answers on Quora and also help you grow your profile. If your answers are getting a good amount of views and upvotes, it will help you get more clicks to the links in your answers.
4. Repurpose On Slideshare
Convert your blog posts into beautiful presentations and publish them on Slideshare.
Slideshare gets over 70 million visitors every month, and you can leverage it by repurposing your blog content into slides.
Here are tips that will help you create slides that get traffic on Slideshare:
1. Write attractive headlines
Headlines are important everywhere. Write attention-grabbing headlines and also include keywords in your headline.
This will help your slide pop up on Slideshare when a user searches for your keyword.
2. Make your slides attractive
Your slides should be simple, clean and clutter free. The text should be easy to read and don’t use any fancy fonts (Comic Sans is not a cool font).
3. Include data graphs and images in your slides
Data graphs and images (no stock images) help make your presentation stand out and helps getting more views on Slideshare.
4. Include a call-to-action at the end of the presentation
You want people to visit your website, right? Include a CTA and offer some incentive that makes them leave Slideshare and visit your site.
5. Embed your presentation in your content
Repurposing is useless if you don’t show that your content is repurposed into something else. Embed your Slideshare presentation in your blog posts so that it gets more views.
So these were some off-page SEO activities that will help you improve your website’s traffic and also rank higher on search engines.
But this is not the end. I have something more for you. I designed this beautifully animated infographic that will help you understand about off-page SEO more easily.
Plus, it contains some tips that were not included above.
Check it out.
Off-page SEO is complicated and there are more elements included in it in contrast to on-page SEO. But if you follow the above tips correctly, you’ll see good results in your traffic stats.
Unlike on-page SEO, off-page SEO is a continuous process and requires you keep a check on the activities you’re performing.
This is why many people stay away from it which means you can take advantage of this and rule the first page of Google.
